What’s the difference between store bought and custom orthotics?

Whether you use a store-bought or custom orthotic, one purpose is often the same: to provide cushioning for your feet. Custom orthotics go beyond this, however. They are designed for your particular foot shape to address your specific foot problems and needs.

Store brands are generic, and even the ones that have you stand on a machine still only provide general support based on an average foot shape. When we measure you, we make an exact digital image or mould of your foot and design the insert to give support exactly where you need it to correct imbalances and cushion hot spots.

At Achilles Custom Orthotics & Footcare, we pride ourselves on getting the recipe right. Correct diagnosis, accurate imaging, and meticulous, on-site crafting mean the orthotics will be built just right for your feet. Call us today at 519-624-4122 and set up an appointment in our Cambridge, ON, office soon.

How long do custom orthotics last?

Some people buy over-the-counter shoe inserts because they believe custom orthotics aren’t worth the price. True, store-bought inserts cost less, but they also don’t last very long, so you soon need to purchase them again. Not only that, they do not help solve foot issues in the same way that prescription orthotics do. Custom orthotics last longer because they are made of more durable materials. A good pair of orthotics from our office should last you several years if you take care of them properly. They will also provide support and cushioning designed especially for your foot to relieve the problems that keep you from the activities you love. When your pain is gone, they are definitely worth the cost!

Give Achilles Custom Orthotics & Footcare a call at 519-624-4122 and let us design a pair of custom supports to relieve your discomfort from plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia, or issues with overpronation. You can also arrange an appointment online.
